Chris's Blog - April 2010

Posted on Monday, April 12 2010 by Chris Jacques

Wow, back again and how time flies, didn’t realise it had been nearly 6 weeks since I last practised my typing (and it’s still no better in case you're wondering). It was Claire, the gaffers wife, who reminded me just how time was cracking on - she has the unenviable job of chasing us round and keeping the web site informative and up to date, something she does well I’m sure you’ll all agree.

It’s been a pretty hectic time at both depots recently. There’s been all the building work at the Bispham Green Depot and with the new workshops, showroom and landscaped/fully tarmaced yards it’s looking really smart now. It is a real pukka quality job, something you’ll be able to see for yourselves at the Cornthwaite Agricultural Open Day on Wednesday 14th April 2010 where there’ll be rep’s from all our suppliers, special on the day offers and a free hog roast amongst a host of other things – see you there.

This seasons foragers have  been arriving at both depots and we’re all busy making sure there well prepped to head off and gobble some grass. Amongst the foragers we’ve sold as a result of last seasons more than succesful demo campaign are a couple of real top end i-package machines bristling with performance and productivity boosting  technology. Again we should have one of these machines on show at the open day courtesy of Dales Contractors Macclesfield (Thanks Anthony). Come and find me for a guided tour on one of my favourite machines and book yourself a slot for this years demo forager, I can only tell you how well it was received by users of other brands last year, especially the lighter green one!, as for the rest you need to try it yourself.

As well as my typing practice I’ve been letting loose my creative skills (scary I know) and with a bit of help from a firm called Ultragraph have designed a logo to compliment our harvest centre concept.

Hopefully we’ll have some Jacket’s, Bodywarmers and T’s sporting the logo on sale at the open day and thereafter in both showroom’s. If anyone fancies anything in particular with our logo on it please either find me at the open day, contact me or ask your local parts dept.

We also seem to have been extremely busy demo’ing and selling Manitou Telehandlers recently. These are real cracking machines made by a specialist firm who’s only job is to produce telehandlers and this really shows in the product. It’s a product with a great name in the market place, a sure fire resale value (a real factor in the cost of machine ownership this one) and there’s a huge product range with something for everyone. We particularly like the MLT 627, MLT634 and MLT735 but like I say there’s literally something for all. Along with other Manitou personnel we’ll have the pleasure of Dave Jefferies Manitou’s full time demonstration driver at our open day. Dave’s a great one to talk to find out exactly what’s the right machine for your job.

There’s also been a few staffing/role changes recently at both branches with one in particular affecting myself. Kev Bretherton (of renowned Nah-Then fame) has taken up the role of parts manager at the Cornthwaite Agricultural Bispham Green branch and this left an opening for Kev’s previous role in Customer Support and in particular AMS support. I have now after great deliberation (It’s not easy taking a back step on the technicians role you know, I still get strong urges to roll around under machines clutching my favourite tool’s, easy, or whip out the laptop and get intimate with a machines electronic systems –but we’ve got a great bunch of technicians at both depots who I’ll still work alongside and new opportunities can only be good for us all) taken up this role to run alongside my job of co-ordinating the demonstration fleet and demonstrating some of the more specialist equipment we have on the fleet for both depots. This will primarily involve me visiting customers with new machines and guiding them through the operation and maintenance of said machine, there after I will always be on hand to support customers and machines with any operation and maintenance issues they may experience during there time with it. The same level of service, support and after care also applies to any used equipment we sell.

That’s enough waffling for now, and hey I’m almost using two fingers on the old keyboard here,

It’d be great to see as many as possible at the open day and get a proper introduction to more of you Lancashire boys and girls,
