Christmas and the turkey seem long since done with now and there’s no better time to start planning ahead for the new season and everything it’ll bring (sorry throw at us !) All of us have to start with some sort of preparation and planning, however dissimilar the plan may seem at the end of the season – if it’s anything like ours it’ll bear scant resemblance to the one we started the season with but there is a saying about planning and poor performance I’m sure you’ve all heard, so to prevent the latter we have to start somewhere.
As I look out of the window through the fog and mist across a field of winter wheat I have to say I’m looking forward with great eagerness to the start of harvest 2011, our combine demo programme and all the challenges it brings with it (I must remember to read this next Aug when it’s chucking it down and someone 50 miles away in a spot of sunshine is desperately wanting a demo ! – but do you know, I wouldn’t have it any other way and as much as I’m a real forager man I’m getting a real soft spot for these combine things)
Our 2010 John Deere T550i demonstrator has indeed been sold and is off on a short boat trip to the good old IOM where I’m pleased to say she’s going to a very good home. For the coming season we’ve opted to run a C670i Package machine with 625R header (25ft), for you guys with competitive machines that equates to a Lexion 570 or CR 9070, and is a 400hp twin rotor machine with a 10 rasp bar 1400mm x 660mm cyl and a speed range of 240 > 1030 rpm. The large twin tine rotors (3400mm) also have the benefit of dual speed drive ranges, and are extremely gentle on straw when compared to other machines of this design, the 50t/hr capacity is all held in a 10,000ltr grain tank and as it’s a rotor machine all this output is achieved within a transport width of just 3.5m even when wearing 800’s.
I know it’s early to be thinking about it but I’m sure anybody planning a major purchase such as a Combine or Forager (or anything else for that matter) for the 2012 season, or sooner, is already aware and considering it by now, it would greatly help us to plan what’s ahead if those in this position could register an interest sooner rather than later either via a quick e-mail or call to myself or any of the sales team. Registering a prior interest in a demonstration of any piece of kit in this way would always be well received and should help to ensure you receive good quality timely demonstrations, I have started, with Claire, to add demo kit to the demonstration pages as soon as it’s ordered to give you an idea of what’s available and coming. (Please note the Vaderstad Spirit Drill when considering spring sowing and a drill purchase for autumn 2011 – phone for more details) Registering an interest in demo kit not shown is also welcome as given enough serious enquiry’s we may then chose to run a particular item.
Turning to AMS for 2011 we’re trying to Gauge any interst in RTK (+/- 2cm repeatable accuracy especially usefull when working in beds at slow speeds) so please let us have your thoughts whatever they may be and we’ll be happy to discuss them with yourselves and John Deere branch specialists – there’s a few potential developments as regards supplying RTK correction signals for 2011 so we’d really appreciate your feedback. Also coming for 2011 will be the new Starfire 3000, 66 Channel receiver with far quicker start up times and greater resistance to shading, coupled to this will be a new Greenstar 2630 Display – smaller, more powerfull, brighter screen and password protected user access to prevent “Dad Dabbling”.

In the haze of Hp and technology its easy to forget the simpler stuff, I was reminded of this on Xmas eve when setting off a new Reco Jeulin J3000 shredder/bedder, it was great, easy to use and did exactly what it said on the can. It shredded straw effortlessly, very quietly, blew it wherever you wanted and had a simple joystick control for the spout and even a remote switch to operate the bed chain and back door whilst loading – this was equally as good if not better than any shredder/bedder I have ever seen or used and probably the machine that most impressed me in 2010.
